The tragedy happened around 3:00am on Friday, and the road remained closed throughout the day and evening as police officers investigated.

Mr Allardyce was 29, and Mr Thornber, 27, were both local.

Mr Allardyce worked as a barman at the Agenda pub. It, along with several other bars closed last night as a mark of respect.

Reports suggest their car was travelling towards Letham Glen when it may have struck a parked vehicle on the opposite side of the road before mounting the pavement and going through a garden fence before crashing into the property.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene, and investigations into the tragedy are on-going.

Sergeant Nicola Young, said: “Sadly we can now confirm that there have been two fatalities and that next of kin have been informed.

“We are still trying to ascertain how many vehicles were involved but we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

“The investigation is at a very early stage and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the accident or saw a white Golf GTI being driven in the area prior to the incident to contact police.”
