POLICE Scotland’s Fife Division, which is investigating an alleged sexual crime in the Dam area of Methil, are looking to trace a man who spoke to the 15-year-old victim.

The alleged attack occurred around 3 a.m. last Saturday in an area known locally as ‘Kirkland Barn’, around 100 yards west of Poplar Road.

A spokesman said the man they hoped to find was understood to have spoken to the victim after the incident and offered help, before leaving the scene. Officers wished to know if he had any other information.

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Graeme Dursley, said: “After this incident happened, the victim, a 15-year-old woman, walked away and was visibly upset.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at that time to contact the police.

“In particular, I would appeal to a man who spoke to the distressed victim very short time after the incident to contact us. He was wearing dark clothing and a black beanie hat at the time.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The Procurator Fiscal at Kirkcaldy also received a report on the case concerning a 16-year-old man.

However, a spokesman said: “Following full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances, he was liberated pending further enquiries and did not appear in court in relation to this matter.”
