British Transport Police are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted on a train travelling between Edinburgh and Dalmeny last week.

The 53-year-old woman, from Fife, had boarded the front carriage of the 9.48pm Edinburgh Waverley to Perth service at Haymarket with her 28-year-old daughter on Saturday, October 3.

Shortly before the train reached Dalmeny station a man assaulted her by hitting her with a can. The assault caused an injury to her face – although she did not require hospital treatment.

The man is described as being aged in his mid-30s, about 5ft 8in in height with brown hair and a beard.

He was wearing dark rimmed glasses and a brown jacket.

He alighted from the train in the company of another man at Dalmeny.

Constable David Ferguson is appealing for anyone who was on the busy train and has information which can help trace the man responsible to contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or by texting 61016.

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
