A METHIL nursery and wheelie bins across Buckhaven have been targeted by firebugs.

Police officers are now chasing the culprits after the Woodlands Nursery on Methilhaven Road had a clothing recycling bin deliberately set on fire on Thursday night.

Earlier last week, on Tuesday December 13, bins on Kestrel Grove and Raven Crescent were also deliberately set ablaze between 5-6am.

In Methil, head of centre, Clark Graham, told the Mail that the nursery’s children had been left “shocked” that such an act of vandalism could be carried out on their premises.

The nursery invites people to donate old clothing at its bin, which is then collected and the nursery given a cash reward which goes towards outings.

Mr Graham said: “The bin was quite full at the time as it had been emptied in November.

“The nursery receives payment for all clothes collected, which is a useful way to boost nursery funds. Unfortunately now, due to the mindless action of some individuals, this key part of nursery fundraising has been stopped.”

Anybody who knows anything about the fires is asked to call Fife police on 0845 600 5702 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where all calls are treated anonymously.
