THREE shops are in the running to become the new home to Lochgelly Post Office with an online poll set up to gauge the public’s opinion.

The Lochgelly community website Loch of Shining Waters launched the ballot and says it will pass the results on to the post master, who will ultimately decide.

In the running are Lochgelly Bargain Store, Costcutters and the Co-op.

A decision on where the new post office will be located could take up to eight weeks.

Currently the Bargain Store is in the lead with 57 per cent of the vote, ahead of the Co-op (27 per cent) and Costcutters (16 per cent).

The town hasn’t had a post office since February, when the Good News supermarket closed unexpectedly.

A number of residents have spoken out at the situation including local MP Gordon Brown who wrote to the company’s chief executive calling for the immediate restoration of the service.
