A decision is yet to be made as to what will happen to the site of Methil’s former power station as Scottish Power are still restoring the land.

The iconic eyesore was felled in April 2011 and as part of its lease the utility company has to clear the site before handing it back to owners Forth Ports.

However some residents raised concerns this week that a plan may have gone through unnoticed after seeing heavy machinery working on the site - Forth Ports and Scottish Power have since confirmed this is not the case.

The port manager explained work taking place was simply Scottish Power fulfilling its “obligation to make the site good again”.

A Scottish Power spokesman added: “Contractors on our behalf are preparing the site for the handover which we estimate will be in about six months time, depending on weather etc.”

The spokesman said he was unaware of a previously reported date of the end of 2012 for the utility company to have completed the work.
