With just a month to go, preparations are well under way for this year’s Kinghorn Children’s Gala celebrations.

Gala week 2016 runs from Sunday, June 5 to Saturday, June 11 with plenty of fun planned for the whole community.

Over the past few weeks this year’s royal party, and the winners of the annual badge poster competitions have been announced.

The draw for the royal party was made during an assembly at Kinghorn Primary School, with organisers pleased to announce Ailidh Rutherford will take on the role of queen, with Aiden Cullinane as king.

The attendants are Marley Feenie and Oliver Thomson.

While the poster competition, which was open to children from nursery age up to primary three, was won by Ellie Robertson.

Codi Main won the badge competition for pupils in primary four to seven.

Codi’s badge design will be used to produce badges for the gala, which are distributed to the school and at gala events, while Ellie’s poster will be used on the front of this year’s gala programmes.

The theme for next month’s Kinghorn Gala is ‘carnival’ and it is expected this will lead to a bright and colourful gala parade on Saturday, June 11.

The annual crowning ceremony of the king and queen will take place on Sunday, June 5 and the theme will be evident throughout the week long programme of events.

The organising committee looks forward to hosting a fun filled week of events which include family fun at the community centre on the afternoon of June 5, following the crowning, with inflatables, a magician and carnival games all on offer.

And they hope that the whole community will turn out in support of events.

The recent door to door collection raised over £1700 towards gala funds with further fundraising events taking place prior to gala week including The “Old Crocs” Race for over 50s at The Auld Hoose on Saturday, May 14 and a race night at The Crown on May 27.

Pub competitions (pool, dominoes and darts) will be held in and around gala week, starting with dominoes (singles) at The Carousel on May 24.

Among the highlights from this year’s Kinghorn Children’s Gala week programme are Fun on the Beach, Kinghorn’s Got Talent, the primary school’s kite festival and a family quiz.

The crowning takes place on Sunday, June 5, while the parade is planned for June 11.

On the Saturday the parade will be followed by a Gala Sports afternoon and Party Night.

Copies of the programme with dates and times will be available throughout Kinghorn.
