A charity golf day is set to propel a sibling foursome further towards the conquest of Africa’s tallest mountain.
Jen Low, from Glenrothes, and her family hope everyone will be at peak form to help raise money for the Kilimanjaro challenge.
Jen and her three sisters are off to Tanzania in September to tackle the ascent of 19,341 feet – 5895 metres – to raise vital funds and awareness of Motor Neurone Disease and the charity MND Scotland.
Leven’s famous links course is hosting a charity Open Pairs Better Ball golf event on Monday, May 4, featuring ladies’, gents’ and mixed teams.
Jen, the secretary-treasuer of the Leven Links Joint Committee, described it as: “An excellent opportunity to play a true links course, experience excellent hospitality and support a wonderful charity.”
She and her siblings – Liz Mackay, Kath Murray and Steph Nicol – decided they wanted to help the charity after the death from motor neurone disease in 2012 of their Aunt Ellie, aged 63.
She fought a brave battle against “the sheer torture” of the illness, said Jen, and lived for only 18 months after diagnosis.
“MND is truly terrifying,” she added. “There is no known cure or treatment.
“Gradually, it stops you from moving, speaking, eating and, eventually, breathing, and it doesn’t affect your intellect.
“You know exactly what is happening to you every step of the way. The end result is always fatal.”
Jen has also set up a Just Giving page – www.justgiving/Jen-Low – where people can donate or they can text JLMK50 £10 (or £1, £2, £3 or £5) to 70070.
