Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie MSP has welcomed the news that five religious groups in Scotland have come out backing equal marriage rights in Scotland.

Scottish Liberal Democrats want Scotland to be one of the most fair and equal places in the world and support the extension of legal marriage to lesbian and gay couples. The Scottish Government is currently consulting on the issue.

Kelty-based Mr Rennie said: “Scottish Liberal Democrats aspire for Scotland to be one of the most fair and equal places in the world. I welcome the contribution that these five religious groups have made to the debate and I hope that this will be an important step forward in our fight for equality for all.

“I hope that the Scottish Government’s consultation and subsequent legislation reflects our aspiration for a fair and equal Scotland. We will continue to work for a Scotland which reflects this.”
