Residents urged to take up free fire visit

Over 200 people in Fife signed up for a free Home Fire Safety Visit over a ten-day period during a safety tour by area fire-fighters.

Of the 300 house fires which occurred in Fife in 2010-11, over half of these homes didn’t have a working smoke alarm or had no smoke alarm at all. Two people in the area lost their lives and 51 people were hurt or injured.

Colin Grieve of Fife Fire and Rescue Service said: “Although many signed up for free Home Fire Safety Visit as a result of the tour, we’d strongly encourage people to think seriously about whether their home is properly protected, and arrange a visit from the fire and rescue service.”
