A CUPAR man played his cards right to grab a place at a top poker tournament in Las Vegas.
Richard Arnott beat 378 players in Nottingham to book his spot at the final table of the UK Pub Poker Tournament.
He’ll jet out to Nevada in May — and he now has six weeks to get a passport as he has never been abroad before.
Richard said: “I can’t quite believe that I’ve won this trip.
“It’s going to be an incredible adventure.
“Now I have to decide who to take with me.”
Richard’s bid to reach the final of the world’s largest amateur poker tournament began in the Imperial Bar in Cupar, where he entered a weekly pub competition.
He then progressed to one of the 68 regional finals before going on to the national final.
By winning in Nottingham, Richard has won a seven-night stay for himself and a guest at The Orleans Casino in Las Vegas.
On arrival he will play a welcome tournament to compete for tickets to shows and trips around the city and will be free to enjoy Las Vegas at his leisure.
The final table game takes place on May 13, where Richard will each start with exactly the same chips that he earned in Nottingham to compete for the title of UK Pub Poker Champion.
First place will pick up an additional £5000, with second and third places winning £2000 and £1000 respectively.
