Runners of all ages and abilities are getting ready to take part in the Glenrothes Road Running Festival 2015.

For weeks now no fewer than 40 youngsters at the town’s Collydean Primary have been among those under starter’s orders for the annual event on Sunday, June 21.

Last year 20 youngsters from the school took part in the event, but this year their numbers have effectively doubled.

PE teacher Alec Davies said: “Those who ran in 2014 spoke so highly of their experience that this rubbed off on their schoolmates with more and more coming along to our weekly after-school training sessions with the bonus being that their interest in running doesn’t wane which is a great boost to their general fitness and well-being.”

Centred around the Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre, the 2015 Road Running Festival will kick off with a 2k Fun Run (entry £2 on the day) at 9.45 a.m. with entrants able to walk, jog or run the distance.

This will be followed by the traditional Junior Track Jog for pre-school children, starting at 10.15 a.m. with the 300 metre run round the Sports Centre track costing entrants just £1 on the day.

The 10k Road Race will start at 10.30 a.m. and is open to everyone aged 15 and over. Entry will be £12 in advance or £15 on the day. Scottish Athletics members will be £10 in advance or £13 on the day and the late entries desk will close at 10.00 a.m.

This year’s 4k Fun Run, starting at 10.50 a.m, will again be open to runners of all ages and will cost £3 to enter on the day. Family entertainment and attractions will be in place from 9.30 a.m.

Traffic disruption, under the control of Police Scotland, will take place in Stenton Road, Beaufort Drive, Braemar Gardens and Warout Road from 9.30 until 11.30 a.m. on Sunday and in Detroit Road, Golf Course Road, Viewfield Road and Stenton Road from 10.00 a.m. until noon.

Entry forms for the Festival are available by writing - on receipt of a stamped-addressed envelope - to the Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre in Viewfield Road, Glenrothes KY6 2RB.

Alternatively anyone wanting to download an entry form or get more information can go to Fife Leisure and search for Glenrothes Road Running Festival, or by e-mailing rr.festival@fife.gov.uk.
