Athlete George Findlay enjoyed a hugely successful Edinburgh Marathon run on two counts.
The retired geography teacher, from Anstruther, completed the course in 3 hrs 57 mins 13 secs – inside the four-hour target he’d set himself after a long absence from full marathon running.
“More importantly, I have raised £1225 so far for Cancer Research UK ,with more promised,” he said.
George had hoped to collect at least £1000 to donate in memory of two former friends and teaching colleagues, Linda Miller and Oriane Evans, whose lives were both claimed by cancer. He was “delighted” to surpass the total.
“The weather on the day ranged from overcast to hot sunshine to rain,” he added. “I enjoyed the run and the atmosphere of over 8000 runners, although cramp was a problem in the last two miles.
“It was well worth doing; I’m glad I did it and raised so much money.”
Grateful to all who sponsored him, George (57) said his Just Giving page was still active, by going to Just Giving and typing in his name.
