School prize captured by Crail

Crail Primary School emerged triumphantly last week from round one of the East Neuk inter-schools quiz,organised by Anstruther Rotary Club.

Primary school teams from Anstruther, Colinsburgh, Crail, hosts Elie, Lundin Mill, Pittenweem and St Monans gathered to compete for the prestigious silver trophy, sponsored by Anstruther Rotary Club and organised by Rotarian Ian Kennedy.

Elie headteacher Maggie McKay, welcoming all, said: “This is an important competition in the local schools calendar, as the children get so much from it and we look forward to taking part every year.”

With teacher turned quizmaster Gillian McLaren in charge, the quiz progressed through 10 rounds each of six questions covering a wide variety of topics. The final result saw Crail in first place with 118 points, Lundin Mill second with 105 and Pittenweem in third with 102.

The silver cup was presented to the Crail team by Rotary Club president Alistair Graham, while each winning member also received a book token.

Crail go on to the next round of the competition at regional level, to be held in Dundee. Head teacher Nicola Wallace said: “I am very proud of my pupils in winning this stage of the quiz and wish them every success in the next stage.”
