The school bell has rung for the last time for Markinch School’s head teacher bringing to a close a 33 year career in the profession.
But most impressive of all was a specially created artwork consisting of a miniature heart from all of the school’s primary and nursery youngsters.
Sandra first walked into a Collydean Primary School classroom as a young teacher back in 1974 marking the start of a long and successful career in education.
She later moved on to Rimbleton Primary School in Glenrothes before accepting the position of head teacher at Markinch school.
Her mantra of ‘maximise potential and success’ will be familiar to generations of youngster and is something that will continue at the school long after her retirement, said fellow teacher Jillian Mellis.
“She has worked exceptionally hard and has been an inspiration not only to children but to staff members who have worked alongside her over the years,” she added.
The retiring head teacher now plans to enjoy spending more time with her grandchildren and getting to play the odd round of golf.
