More than 140 daring souls braved the winter weather to join in the St Andrews Loony Dook on New Year’s Day.

Clad in everything from practical wet suits to the fanciful medieval costumes via speedos, swimmers sprinted across the East Sands to dive in to the icy North Sea to make it a day to remember – before most people had surfaced from Hogmanay celebrations!

And as if the swimmers weren’t colourful enough a plentiful supply of paint powder added to the fun.

After the dip, swimmers were able to warm up with coffee and bacon rolls courtesy of the New Inn. Organiser Tone Brennan reported afterwards that the event had raised £550 for charity Worldwide Cancer Research. Photographer Peter
Adamson was there to capture the fun.
