Scout leaders Cameron Whitelaw and Andrei Ruskuc and six members from 8th Fife (St Andrews) Scout Troops recently took part in the Campsie Challenge 2014.

The weekend camp took place at Auchengillan Outdoor Centre in Blanefield. The Campsie Challenge is a hiking competition which involves teams of four scouts participating their way between various bases and completing challenges as they work their way independently through the hills.

The leaders said: ‘It’s a terrific opportunity for the scouts to embrace all that is scouting, enjoying the great outdoors and adventure, developing their independence, leadership and team building skills as well as developing new and existing friendships.”

In addition to the main challenge all scouts had an opportunity to take part in the Lunar Challenge, a night hiking challenge, as well as take part in a full and fun activity programme.

The St Andrews team did exceptionally well and all agreed it had been an active and challenging but fun weekend and they very much look forward to taking part again next year.
