St Leonards quad rang out with shrieks of joy as students recently celebrated top class GCSE results. Students in Year 11, known as Pre-IB, managed to turn in an impressive set of results, with 32 per cent achieving six or more A*/A passes. Emilie Rapport Munro did incredibly well gaining straight A* results in 10 subjects, and Oliver Eve, Laura Ferrier and Rebecca Scott all achieved straight A*/A.
At St Leonards, pupils in the Pre-IB year group sit GCSEs before going on to study for the two-year International Baccalaureate Diploma. In addition, each year students in Year 10 are given the chance to sit selected GCSEs one year early if they are felt to be ready for it. This year 21 pupils sat the Maths paper early, with 19 gaining an A* or A. Ines Hayward-Daventry in Year 10 also gained an A* in IGCSE Dutch and Mikkel Kristensen in Year 9 achieved an A* in IGCSE French.
A number of pupils taking a special one-year pre-IB course – available at St Leonards as preparation for the IB Diploma – also sat GCSEs and IGCSEs, turning in a flurry of top grades.
Headmaster Dr Michael Carslaw said: “I’m delighted for all of our pupils, and their teachers, we have worked hard to achieve a good set of results.”
