EAST Wemyss singer Janey Kirk released her latest album this week, featuring a track country legend Billie Jo Spears told her to record.
Janey was lucky enough to join her idol and two others - Philamena Begley and Lena Martell - on the ‘Ladies of Country’ tour last May.
And it was while she was on the road she discovered the song, which has also given the name to her album, ‘Don’t Colour Me Blue’.
Janey told the Press: “I was on the ‘Ladies of Country tour’ with Billie Jo Spears last year and sadly that was her last tour.
“Billie Jo was given a CD from a publicity company in the hope she would record one of the songs.
“Only one song stuck out for her and that was ‘Don’t Colour Me Blue’, but she was unable to record it herself. It’s a beautiful song.
“She said to me ‘Janey, you’ve got to go record this song’.
“Part of her success was she’d always been able to choose songs that could make hits.
“She said if she was able to and up for it she would have recorded it herself, but she couldn’t. I took her advice.
“The song took off, being played on the radio and people kept asking where they could buy the track because they liked it so much.”
The album, featuring the track alongside seven self penned songs and four others, was released this week.
