ST ANDREANS will face the music in the town centre next weekend.
A Christmas street concert in Church Square is being organised by senior Madras College pupil Cameron Mackay, who has been accepted to go on a five-week expedition in the heart of the Himalayas in the summer of 2013 with the British Exploring Society.
He is currently in the process of raising the £4200 required and one way in which he aims to achieve this target is by organizing several events around the St Andrews area.
The concert next Saturday, December 22, will start at noon and finish at 3pm.
And the event will showcase some of the very talented young musicians from Madras College on a stage in the centre of the square.
Cameron told the Citizen: ‘‘Whether you’re into folk or jazz, pop music or hymns or just feel like listening to some Christmas music, there will be something for you in the programme.
‘‘There will be no charge to listen but there will be donation boxes on offer at the event. As well as music there will also be festive food and hot drinks on sale throughout, so Church Square will definitely be the place to be if you are in need of warming up next Saturday afternoon.’’
There will also be a chance to listen to, and purchase, a Christmas single produced by Cameron and his friends; a folky rendition of ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ which not only raises funds for his expedition but also local charity, AICR.
He added: ’’Everybody is welcome so, if you are passing through St Andrews on the last Saturday before Christmas Day, do drop by Church Square to enjoy some seasonal celebrations.’’
