THE Tay Rail Bridge Disaster Memorial Trust are appealing for donations to aid their plans.

They hope to build a memorial to those who lost their lives when a train plunged into the Tay during a violent storm which caused the bridge to collapse on December 28, 1879.

Their appeal was recently boosted by a successful run at the Dundee Rep of ‘Five pound and Twa Bairns’- a play about the disaster.

Many fifers died that night, including the train’s Leslie-born driver David Mitchell.

To donate, make cheques out to “Tay Rail Bridge Disaster Memorial Trust” and send to Ian Rae, Treasurer of TRBDMT, 11 Wilmington Drive, Glenrothes, KY7 6US.
