Temporary bridge links old and new wings at Vic

A NEW clinical corridor linking the new and existing Victoria Hospital buildings has now opened.

The temporary passageway, which was completed ahead of the scheduled date, links patients and staff to the clinical activity taking place across the site.

From the old accident and emergency entrance, the corridor runs to the first floor of the new wing, close to day intervention and theatres.

Tina Chapman, co-ordinator for the general hospitals and maternity services, said: “Opening the temporary bridge in advance of the permanent link will make it quicker for staff to transport patients and equipment.

“It will also provide direct access from wards and departments in the existing estate to clinical areas in new wing making journeys across the site quicker and more efficient.”

Building work is already underway for the permanent link bridge between the buildings, and is due to be completed this summer.
