Ladies’ lunch 2014 hailed an outstanding success
An incredible £10,000 was raised at the 2014 ladies’ lunch, held in aid of our Maggie’s Centre.
Comedian and radio Scotland star Fred MacAulay was the host at this year’s event held at Forrester Park resort at Cairneyhill, where the theme was ‘Handbags and Gladrags.’
Tu Edwards, centre fundraiser for Maggie’s Fife, who organised the event along with Sharon Hopkinson, Pamela Stevenson and Mairead Stewart, who are all members of Maggie’s Fife associate fundraising board, said the amount raised was “amazing”.
She added: “It was another great event, people had a fantastic time and the speakers were just so inspiring.
“I’m over the moon at how generous everyone was. The money raised will make a huge difference to us.”
Each of the 160 ladies who attended was asked to bring along a good quality handbag to be sold at the event.
It generated £1000, to send the overall total soaring through £10,000 as everyone dug deep and gave so generously.
Centre head Elspeth Salter talked about the work carried out by the centre and visitor Stella Bonnar spoke about how she was helped when she was diagnosed with cancer three years ago.
A live auction was held and among the prizes up for grabs was lunch for four courtesy of celebrity chef Eadie Manson, who made a guest appearance.
Host Fred said he had been “flattered and delighted” to be invited for a scond year.
“It’s now firmly in the calendar as one of the highlights of the year for Fife ladies who care for those friends, family and strangers who have suffered from cancer,” he said
“At times heart-breaking, at times hilarious, it was a great lunch and if I’m lucky, I’ll be asked back for the next one too.”
