Kirkland High School pupils showed a remarkable range of invention – and a generous, caring approach – as they came up with a host of designs for a cake-making course. Sixteen senior students were involved in the National 5 Practical Cake Craft assignment – and all passed with As or Bs.

Many of the cakes were produced to mark birthdays or anniversaries for the likes of grandparents or siblings, hence such inspirational creations as the pandas and the superhero emblems, pcitured above.

Kirkland’s home economics principal, Niki Corlett, said: “This course has proved to be a tremendous success and the pupils have done themselves and the school proud.” Many of them surpassed even their own expectations and levels of confidence, she added.
