LOCAL students have raised over £500 in aid of Fife charity, Maggies.

Caitlin Harley, from Glenrothes and Gwen Li, from Kirkcaldy were given a project by their college and their decision to choose Maggie’s as the beneficiary followed Caitlin having recently lost her best friend to leukaemia.

Caitlin told the Gazette: “The news that I was going to lose one of my best friends to leukaemia was devastating, so when I was given a project to organise an event I instantly knew I wanted to do something for a cancer charity in his memory.

“Cancer affects so many people, I know too well having lost my friend and also having family members diagnosed, and who have benefited greatly from the support at Maggie’s.”

The event proved to be a great success with local Thornton DJ John Hay volunteering his time and Gwen’s parent’s, owners of Ming Sang Chinese takeaway, Kirkcaldy providing a Chinese buffet.
