Fife Gingerbread and The Gateway partnership project have launched a community meals venture for families on low income in the area.

‘Food Time, Fun Time!’ is a parent-led initiative based in Leven Baptist Church Hall, Methil – home to Leven Food Bank – which brings together local families for a hot meal and family learning activities.

Earlier this year, 12 local parents were assisted by The Gateway to undertake Food Preparation and Health & Hygiene training.

This proved extremely popular and several parents expressed a desire to ‘give something back’ to the others struggling on a budget to feed their family, who want to improve their cooking knowledge and skills, or just want to have fun with others.

‘Food Time, Fun Time!’, which is free to attend, allows local families to come along and not only learn how to cook, but to also sit down as a family and enjoy the meal. It also gives the children a chance to have some after-school play time with other children their own age.

Liz Williamson, one of the founding members and a local parent, said: “This group is great because we all get together for a meal as a family. It’s a friendly place and it’s nice when families spend time together.”

Staff are actively seeking out local sponsors and partners keen to help keep the project going in 2015 – to offer your support, or for more information, contact Wilson Macduff on 01333 317030.
