An apprentice joiner from Kennoway has received the Employee of the Year award at the recent Scottish Business Diversity Awards.
Fife Provost Jim Leishman congratulated Laura Hunter (21), from building services, who has carved out her dream job as a joiner.
Laura is profoundly deaf and has worked hard to build up an impressive portfolio of work through paid, voluntary and project work, which enabled her to be employed, as an apprentice with Building Services in August 2013.
Fife Council was also recognised at the awards for its role in giving Laura the opportunity to make a career for herself.
Provost Leishman said: “We are all so proud of Laura’s achievement. She knew exactly what she wanted to achieve and she has overcome major barriers to succeed.
“As an employer, Fife Council recognises that, with just a little support, people with disabilities and health issues have a huge contribution to make to our society and economy.”
The Scottish Business Diversity Awards celebrates the achievements of people, businesses and organisations in Scotland who are involved in the employment of people with disabilities and health issues.
