Police are appealing for witnesses after a tractor unit was stolen from an industrial yard in Methil on Tuesday.

The theft happened around 7:15am when a thief - or thieves - entered Naylor Drainage on Cowley Street and stole a Volvo HGV tractor unit.

A short time later the large 7.5 tonne vehicle collided with a bus shelter and with a parked car on Methilhaven Road before being abandoned on Kirkland Walk.

There were no injuries, but police are very keen to trace the driver as quickly as possible - and have launched an appeal for help.

Community Sergeant Craig Fyall of Levenmouth Police Station said: “It’s obvious that the person responsible never had a clue how to drive this vehicle and their reckless actions could have resulted in people being injured or even worse.

“As a result there has been damage to a vehicle and a bus shelter. ‘‘
