This weekend local scout leaders Kenny Crosbie and Ava Rennie are embarking on a Great Outdoors Challenge to fundraise for the RNLI.

They are preparing to walk 180 miles from Sheil Bridge on the West Coast to Scurdie Ness

on the East Coast.

The pair must carry all their equipment including food, tent and sleeping bags. It will take them 12 days to complete the trek, which they are doing to raise funds for the RNLI.

They are doing the TGO Challenge as a personal challenge, to do something out of their comfort

zone which will build resilience and require team work, just like Scouting.

The decision was made to raise funds for the RNLI after visiting Kinghorn Lifeboat Station last year with the cub scouts.

Ava, assistant cub scout leader with the 1st Kintore Scout Group, said: “The cubs were inspired when they met the volunteers at the Kinghorn Lifeboat Station last year and seeing the work that they do. My family have a yachting and fishing background and have had first-hand experience of the work that the RNLI do.

“As well as this all the crew members are volunteers just like Scout leaders so it seemed like a great fit in terms of a charity to support.”

Kenny, cub scout leader with the 86th Fife Scout Group and Explorer Scout Leader with 14th Fife Group, said: “Our cub scouts are asked to undertake a personal challenge so we want to show them that we as leaders undertake personal challenges.

“The Great Outdoors Challenge is one which requires many scouting skills like team work, organisation and resilience. This will be out of our comfort zone but we want to show our Cubs that if you put your mind to something it can be achieved, and I’m sure we will have fun along the way.”

The two leaders will head off today (May 13) from Sheil Bridge on the West Coast and are aiming to arrive at Scurdie Ness on the East Coast on the 25th of May. You can help support their fundraising at www.justgiving.com/ava-kenny
