A trust set up in memory of a former Glenrothes MSP has sponsored a day at Maggie’s Fife to mark the fifth anniversary of his death.
The Kirkcaldy-based centrehas appealed for sponsors to help meet its £2400 a day running costs and the John MacDougall Mesothelioma Trust has answered the call.
The trust raises funds for sufferers and people affected by the disease from which the Labour politician, who was also a former Fife Council leader, died.
John’s daughter, Julie, said she and her mother Cathy thought the sponsorship would be “a lovely way to mark the anniversary”.
“Thanks to generous donations (to the trust), there is quite a lot of money available and we thought we could put some of it back into the community by sponsoring a day at Maggie’s,” she added.
“In this way we can hopefully help all those with cancer a little and I know my dad would have approved wholeheartedly.’’
Tu Edwards, community fundraiser for the cancer care centre, thanked Cathy and Julie for sponsoring the day on August 13.
