MOBILE communications giant Vodafone has changed its mind about pulling the plug on its Kirkcaldy store.
The company announced at the start of May that the shop, located in a prime site at the entrance to the Mercat Shopping Centre, would be closing.
It was due to shut by the beginning of this month - but it is still trading and Vodafone this week confirmed it would be staying open.
The four employees - who had faced redundancy or relocation - have been kept on.
A Vodafone spokesman said: “We keep the status of our stores under constant review and we’ve no plans to close the Kirkcaldy store in the immediate future.”
The closure of the Vodafone shop would have been damaging for the Mercat centre, which would have been left with unoccupied units on either side of the main entrance following the closure of the Officers Club men’s fashion store last year.
Vodafone had said the original plan to close the Kirkcaldy shop was part of an ongoing review of the business, with other stores being refurbished and ‘Tech Teams’ being introduced to provide expert advice to customers.
While the shop is being retained, Vodafone’s spokesman said it was not planning any changes to the store currently.
