A Fife papermill has apologised to residents who were alarmed by a sudden, loud noise at night.
Tullis Russell has explained the noises heard over Glenrothes in the early hours. A spokesperson said: “This happened when we experienced an unplanned shutdown on one of our paper machines. The loud noise was due to the safety valves on our boilers relieving excess steam pressure, a statutory design feature to protect the boilers and plant operators. We very much regret the alarm and inconvenience caused to local residents.”
