FOR over 100 years, Carnbee Literary and Social Union has entertained East Neuk audiences with annual variety concerts for charity.

The shows, in Arncroach Hall, remain very popular but, this year, only some inspired talent recruitment by producer Catherine Brunton, plus a late infusion of fresh blood into the choir, allowed the March concert to go ahead.

The Society decidedby an overwhelming majority during an open meeting that ‘the show must go on’ – so is looking for some new members.

For many years, the event cornerstone was the performance by the award-winning ladies of Carnbee WRI, presenting revues or dramas which were regular winners in the Scottish WRI competitions – and their commitment will continue.

The show also features choral items, musicals, sketches and individual instrumental acts, and the hunt is on for fresh talent to back up the existing performers.

President Jean Davis said anyone who was maybe interested in joining could contact her on 01333 720352.

“There was some concern at one point that this year’s concert might not go ahead, but everyone rallied round,” she said.
