The call has gone out to Glenrothes war heroes to step forward and apply for their Veterans’ Badge.
Hundreds of Fifers, including many from the area, have already received their badges, but the list of those eligible has been expanded.
Many more can now receive the award for their bravery and dedication and Glenrothes MP, Lindsay Roy, wants them to stake their rightful claim.
It’s planned that Mr Roy and Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath MP Gordon Brown will present the Veterans’ Badges to applicants from their constituencies at a ceremony in Kirkcaldy, probably in late October, so applications should be submitted soon.
Said Mr Roy: ‘’Many members of our armed forces already wear their badge with pride and it’s only right that we encourage others who qualify for the award to come forward.
‘’These are the men and women who have served and protected our country overseas and at home in a variety of different roles over the years, yet many have not been honoured.
‘’Their selfless service should be recognised and I urge them to apply for the Veterans’ Badge.’’
Anyone who has served in the armed forces or Merchant Navy is eligible and application forms can be downloaded from the internet www.veterans-uk.info/vets_badge/vets_badge or obtained from Mr Roy’s office at 83a Woodside Way, Glenrothes (telephone 01592 758662). Assistance will be given with filling in the form if required.
