KIRKCALDY artist Jack Vettriano has allowed one of his acclaimed paintings to be used to raise funds for the Maggie’s charity.
Supermarket Scotmid Co-operative have made 5000 limited edition, eco-friendly, cotton shopping bags featuring his ‘Anniversary Waltz’ piece.
Selling at £2 a time it is expected £10,000 will be raised for the charity - which offers free support to people with cancer and their family and friends, and is the Scotmid Co-operative’s charity of the year.
Vettriano is a long-term supporter of Maggie’s and in 2010 he raised over £20,000 for the charity when his famous image, ‘Let’s Twist Again’, went on sale as the First Ministers chosen Christmas card.
He said: “I am delighted to lend my support to Scotmid’s fundraising campaign for Maggie’s Cancer Care Centres – I have seen the brilliant work they do first hand in my hometown, Kirkcaldy, and hope that their network of centres continues to grow with our support.”
Gemma Branney, a fundraising manager at Maggie’s added: “Jack Vettriano has been a fantastic supporter of Maggie’s for many years now and we are delighted that he has came together with Scotmid to develop this gorgeous bag.
“We are sure it will be a huge success with Scotmid customers and will go a long way in raising vital funds for our network of cancer support Centres.”
A spokesman for the supermarket said it was “honoured” to be working with the artist.
The Jack Vettriano charity bag is available from all Scotmid Co-operative stores, with 100 per cent of the purchase price donated to Maggie’s.
