Voluntary sector merger planned for Fife

Voluntary organisations in Fife are to come together and exist as one new organisation.

The move is a result of a Scottish Government move to combine funding to one third sector support organisation in each of Scotland’s 32 community planning areas. In Fife, this will bring together the current range of activities to strengthen services to the voluntary sector in a single organisation with the overall aim of supporting, promoting, developing and representing the sector.

In Fife, CVS Fife, VONEF, Volunteering Centre Fife and Fife Social Economy Partnership have all been affected, having all previously received individual government grants.

Now, with the support of Fife Council and an independent consultant, a new organisation is coming together.

Fife Council’s Funding and Monitoring Manager, Sharon Douglas, explained: “This has been a challenging process with many different elements including funding, membership and how the new organisation will be governed, to consider.

“However we are now at a stage where new members are being appointed to the Board and a recruitment process is underway to appoint a Chief Officer to the new organisation.
