ORGANISERS have thanked all the volunteers who donned their wellies at the weekend to help make a local beach clean up a big success.

People were invited along to Burntisland beach on Saturday and Seafield Beach, Kirkcaldy on Saturday and Sunday to help remove any rubbish.

Marks and Spencer staff were also on hand to help with the clean up. Refreshments and equipment was provided.

Diane Greig, who is acting chairman of Seafield Environmental Group, said: “Saturday was a particularly successful day with lots of people turning out to clean up the beach. As a result we have lots of people to thank. Marks and Spencer’s staff also joined us and collected lots of rubbish from the beach.

“There was a lot of plastic and rope on the beach and much of it must come from the boats on the Forth.”

Diane said the second day of the clean up was not as busy. She added: “Sunday was a quieter day, but the weather wasn’t quite as friendly. Although we still collected several bags of rubbish from the beach.”
