Thanks to the generosity of people from across Kirkcaldy, the Salvation Army is appealing for families who need support to come forward.

Every year, the local branch of the charity, based in the High Street, is delighted to receive a number of gifts which are distributed through referrals to families in need right across the town and the wider Fife area.

However, this Christmas has seen an overwhelming amount of support from townsfolk, which means the Sally Ann now has an abundance of gifts that they are desperate to get to those who need them.

Caroline James, captain mission partner for Fife, explained: “People in this area are always really kind and donate lots of gifts.

“But this year the support has been exceptional from local businesses, individuals, the churches and local community groups. It’s been overwhelming.”

Despite contacting the local social work departments to offer support to any families in need, there are still lots of gifts left over, with just over a week to go until Christmas.

Caroline and the staff are determined to see the gifts go to families who need them, and she has urged any families who might be struggling to come forward.

“There might be people out there who aren’t involved with social work or anything like that, but for one reason or another, find themselves struggling this year.

“We would love to hear from them, and all they would have to do is answer a couple of questions, nothing invasive, and we can help.

“It would be such a shame for these gifts not to go out to the people who need them.

“The generosity of people who have donated the gifts needs to be honoured too, and many of those who’ve handed these in are elderly folk who have spent a while picking out a lovely gift, so we want to make sure they get to the right people.”

The Salvation Army will aim to give out around three presents per child, which Caroline said could be a massive help to families who have two or three kids.
