Could Levenmouth soon have an Academy, or even a football inspired high school?

Those are just two of the options which have made it on to the shortlist for names for the new Levenmouth high school.

The naming of the new school has been a real community activity and everyone has been given a chance to have a say in this momentous decision.

There are five names on the list: Levenmouth Academy, Levenmouth High School, Bayview High School, Methilhaven High School or East Fife High School.

Those five were whittled down from over 100 entries submitted by the public during a eight week long consultation period.

David McGrath, community learning and development team leader, is a member of the the New School Liaison Group, which put together the shortlist of suggestions at their recent meeting.

He told the Mail: “Over the next week, staff will be going into every school in Levenmouth where each pupil will be given the chance to vote by ballot paper for the name they want. We expect there to be around 4000 votes cast.”

Ronnie Ross, headteacher of Kirkland High School and Interim Head of the new secondary school, said: “The naming of the new school has been a real community activity and everyone has been given a chance to have a say in this momentous decision.

“The process has been open, fair and transparent and indeed an example of best practice where local people have been fully encouraged to get involved and to have their voices heard.”

Once all pupils have voted, a count will take place before the results are announced at the Levenmouth area committee meeting on July 1.
