ROBERT Wiseman Dairies has confirmed that it is to close its distribution depot in Cupar with the potential loss of almost 70 jobs.
The decision follows the conclusion of a strategic review and 30 day formal consultation process, prompted by changes in the requirements of customers and the loss of key contracts served by the depot.
Distribution of milk from the site will transfer to depots in Whitburn and Aberdeen during April in line with operational requirements, and the decision could lead to 67 redundancies.
Martyn Mulcahy, group operations director at Robert Wiseman Dairies, said: “Staff, management and unions worked extremely hard to find ways of addressing the challenges facing the depot, but we have been unable to establish an economic basis for continuing to distribute milk from Cupar.
“We very much regret the impact that this decision will have on the area and will provide assistance to those who will be affected.
“It is our hope that some staff at Cupar might consider taking up positions available elsewhere in our network of dairy and distribution facilities and we will provide support to staff who wish to take up this option.”
