A Glenrothes woman has celebrated the milestone of her 100th birthday.

Mrs Marina MacKechnie of Sythrum Crescent Glenrothes, turned 100 on 24 February.

Councillor Ian Crighton visited the Woodside pensioner to present her with a gift voucher on behalf of Fife Council to mark the occasion. She also received flowers and a card from the Queen, delivered by the local branch of the Lord Lieutenancy.

On the day Mrs MacKechnie was born, Italy made a surprise attack on Beirut, at the time a part of the Ottoman Empire. Before the Ottoman provincial governor could reply, the Italian ships began bombardment. Closer to home, Ireland beat Scotland 10-8 in a Rugby Union international that day.
