AFTER nearly two years of tireless fund-raising by volunteers and generosity from the community, work on the new Adamson Hospital cafe in Cupar is set to begin.
The cash target of £73,000 has been reached and now planning permission for the venture has been granted by Fife Council.
Work is due to begin early next month and it is hoped the cafe will be ready to open by the beginning of July.
The fund-raising drive began in June 2010 and had reached almost £10,000 within a few weeks.
In November of that year the kitty was given a huge boost with the addition of £40,000 from Adamson Hospital endowment funds.
Donations continued over the next 15 months thanks to a host of events held in the area to raise money for the cafe.
And last year appeal leader Peter Cura was chosen by North East Fife MSP Rod Campbell as his ‘local hero’.
As a reward for his efforts, Cuparian Mr Cura was invited to take part in the opening ceremony for the new session of the Scottish Parliament.
