Hopes of having a local voice to cheer on in this year’s X Factor competition were silenced at the weekend as Buckhaven singer Jade Richards was axed from the TV show.

Jade, who showed her emotions before and after her performance, sang ‘Hurt’ by Christina Aguilera to judge Nicole Scherzinger and American singer/songwriter Mary J. Blige at Scherzinger’s ‘judge’s house’ in Antigua.

Of her performance Blige said: “The tone in your voice and when you go into the high big stuff - that rasp that comes behind it is just amazing.”

Scherzinger agreed Jade had “undeniable tone” and said she knew she had worked hard but felt she “backed off” halfway through the song.

Ultimately the former Pussycat Doll decided to put through Abi Alton, Tamera Foster and Hannah Barrett.

Despite missing out on X Factor glory Jade still had cause to celebrate - announcing a record deal with new Glasgow label The Boombox.

Speaking on Monday, Jade thanked those who had wished her well and added: “It must have been a tough decision, but hey, onwards and upwards.

“Keep your eyes peeled, there is big things coming. This is only the beginning!

“I’m going to be recording an album! I’m very excited about this and cannot wait to get started!”

John McLaughlin of the label added: “The Boombox are delighted to announce the signing of Jade Richards to our newly formed record label.

“She has an amazing voice that deserves to be heard on a record, a real talent that we are very excited to be working with.”
