  • Double points encounter is league decider
WINNER takes all at Murrayfield Ice Rink on Saturday as Fife Flyers head into a potential league decider against Edinburgh Capitals.
Should the Kirkcaldy side win the double points encounter they will clinch the Scottish Premier Hockey League title in what is their final match of the competition.

Victory for the home side will put them in pole position to win the title, but Ca
pitals will still require victories in their three remaining games against Braehead, twice, and Solway to overtake Fife's points tally.

Flyers are hoping to take a large travelling support across the Forth for one of the biggest matches of the season, despite the early face-off of 5.30 p.m.

"We won the Northern League sitting on a bus but this is coming down to our last match of the season," Flyers coach Todd Dutiaume explained.
"This is a one-off which doesn't happen very often. When you win these games there is no better feeling. ''

Due to their involvement in the Elite League, all of Edinburgh's SPHL matches have been for double points, meaning they have played half the games.

"We've put a lot more effort into winning this league than Edinburgh have," Dutiaume stressed. They've only played half the games.

"We deserve to be in this position and up until Saturday, we'd won every game in this competition. We'll be going all guns blazing."

Capitals issued a statement online last week promising to ice the strongest line-up available with a number of EIHL regulars expected to ice.

"You never know what Edinburgh are going to do," Dutiaume said. "They may show up with a weak team or the best team of the year.
