SCOTTISH Cup fever has gripped Kirkcaldy ahead of Raith Rovers' biggest match of the season.
At Stark's Park this Saturday, SPL big guns Aberdeen will stand between John McGlynn's Rovers side and a dream place in the quarter-finals.

With posters and banners spread over the town helping generate a pre-match buzz, Rovers are hopeful that the glamour game can attract a sell-out crowd of over 8000.

Dons fans will travel in numbers, having sold out their entire allocation for the North Stand, and Raith officials are hopeful of shifting all remaining seats.

Rovers boss McGlynn told SportsPress: "This is the first time in 12 years we've got to this stage of the cup.

"It's a big game for us, and it's caught the imagination of fans and the people of Kirkcaldy.

"Tickets have been selling really well, so hopefully it will bring back fans who've not been here recently. It will be up to us to then give them a performance and result that will make them come back more often because we need all the support we can get.

"There's a fair amount of experience in our team so it's all about us rising to the challenge. It's one we look forward to because we don't always get the opportunity to play against SPL opposition. It's time to show what we can do against them."

The Dons, currently seventh in the SPL, make their first visit to Kirkcaldy in 13 years on the back of consecutive home league defeats to Motherwell and Falkirk.

The Pittodrie side has also suffered cup exits at the hands of lower league opposition in recent seasons, most recently against Dundee in the League Cup earlier this season.

McGlynn urged his players to pounce on any uncertainty in the Aberdeen camp.

"In two previous rounds we had Peterhead and Airdrie at home, and all the pressure was on us," he said. "Both games ended up a draw, but we done a very professional job in the replays.

"Now that pressure transfers onto Aberdeen as the SPL club. You can look back at Dundee, Queen of the South and Queen's Park all having put Aberdeen out in recent years.

"The Scottish Cup quite often throws up these situations. It's another potential banana skin here for them.

"If they're at their best, and we're at our best, they probably win, but if they're not at their best, and we are, then we'll possibly have a chance.

"If you look at our league results and performances so far this season, we always seem to rise to the big occasion.

"The big crowd will help our players. We'll be very much up for it, and the pitch isn't great, which might help us because it will be a leveller."

McGlynn revealed that he has used his contacts at Dundee United and Hearts to gather as much information as possible on Saturday's opponents.

"I've got a DVD of the recent game at Tynecastle, which Aberdeen won 3-0, and watched it two or three times now," he said. "We've also got reports from some of their games. However DVDs and reports can only do so much.

"It's your team that has to go out there and do the business. As long as we play to the best of our ability, we don't have to be scared of Aberdeen."

Barring any mishaps in training, Rovers will only have injured captain Iain Davidson unavailable for the cup clash.
