CUPAR Hearts' dreams of another Hampden appearance were dashed by a 2-0 defeat at the hands of a very experienced Eddlewood side in Hamilton on Saturday.
Despite going into the Scottish Amateur Cup quarter-final tie full of confidence, Hearts produced one of their worst performances of the season.

Without the suspended Lindsay Sharp, Cupar had to do some rearranging at the back, but pressed forward right from the start.

However, Eddlewood soon showed what they were capable of by keeping possession with their controlled passing, and they took the lead after only six minutes.

A deep cross by Kerr was met by Cossar sliding in at the far post, and he managed to squeeze the ball over the line.

Hearts had a couple of chances but failed to capitalise.

To go into half-time only a goal down would have given Hearts some hope, but 12 minutes before the break the visitors were stunned again when Lister scored with a glancing header.

Sibanda and Pryde replaced Kinhart and Fraser in the second half, hoping to inject more pace up front.

DISASTER

disaster struck Hearts when keeper Dod Sharp was given his marching orders for a foul outside the penalty area.

Sibanda took over between the posts and was tested a couple of times, but Eddlewood found him more than capable.

Hearts' captain Anderson was immense throughout the match and urged his players on right to the final whistle.

The final 10 minutes was Cupar's best spell of the match, but even a consolation goal eluded them.

A disappointing performance by Cupar, but best wishes went to the home side at the end of the game.

Cupar still have plenty to play for, starting tomorrow with an away tie against Burntisland Shipyard in the first round of the Scottish Brewers Cup. Kick-off 2 p.m.

Hearts: Sharp, Fraser, Gilfillan, Anderson (c), Halley, McGuire, Kinhart, McLean, Reilly, Hutcheon and Cameron. Subs: Sibanda, Fraser, Pryde, Kirk, Rann, Donald and Milne.
