  • Players hope for more points and better weather
DUNNIKIER Cricket Club started the new season on Saturday in the hope of more points — and more sunshine — than last year.
In 2007, the Kirkcaldy cricketers missed out on promotion after half of their fixture list was wiped out by a wet summer and their scores were worked out by percentages.

Club captain Craig Drysdale hopes that the 2008 summer brings about better fortunes, both in terms of weather and performance.

"The weather definitely curtailed our ambitions last season," Drysdale told SportsPress.

"We played a lot less matches than we did the previous year and some crucial games were rained off near the end.

"If we could have played those games we could have finished higher, although fourth place was a step in the right direction from previous seasons."

Despite rain at the weekend, Dunnikier managed to get their first match played but Drysdale reckons the club could be forced to train indoors.
"We were one of the few games to go ahead on Saturday," he said.

"The wicket at Dunnikier is extremely wet and the forecast for the next three days is more rain so we could see our first home match called off.

"We can't help that but what it does do is severely curtail our outdoor practice so the decision is whether to move training indoors through May to June."

Dunnikier's hopes of winning the East Third Division have been boosted by not only retaining last season's squad, but adding three new members.
