FIFE Flyers have already lost derby rivals to the Elite League ... now it has claimed one of their most talented young players.

Willie Nicolson signed for EIHL club Edinburgh Capitals this week.
The 20-year-old defenceman will join the Murrayfield club's Academy with a view to securing ice time with the senior EIHL side this coming season.

Flyers regular opponents in recent seasons, derby rivals Dundee Stars and Braehead Clan, have also moved to the Elite League – and it was only last week that the Kirkcaldy side's future was resolved with the confirmed expansion of the Northern League to seven teams.

But with three EIHL Scots club now vying for capable British-trained players, Fife's pool of talent could yet be raided further.

This prospect does not concern Todd Duituame, who expects to meet with Flyers chairman Tom Muir within the next week to confirm his role as Flyers' player-coach for a sixth successive season.

"I'm neither up nor down about players moving on," he said. "I only want guys that want to be here. If a guy wants to try something different, then all I ask is that they let me know so we don't get caught out.

"Willie phoned me up, told me he was going for it with Edinburgh, and I wished him the best and told him that if he ever wanted to come back, just phone.

"It just gives other guys a chance to get into our line-up. We'll be looking for more from the likes of Josh Scoon and a few of our junior development guys that we've had our eye on."
