FIFE Flyers will prepare to take on an Edinburgh Capitals side boosted by Elite League players on Saturday night — even if one fails to show.
With double points up for grabs due to Capitals' revised commitment to the national league fixture schedule, Saturday's match is crucial to both sides.
Edinburgh are in pole position in the SPHL having already taken eight points from Dundee Stars wi
th a team strengthened by two imports and a handful of British players from their EIHL side.
With Capitals not in Elie League action until Sunday there is a possibility that Flyers could face the same side that twice claimed Stars's scalp – minus one import to match Fife's quota.
Such a scenario would arguably give Fife their toughest test of the season, but Edinburgh's priorities in the EIHL could tempt the Murrayfield club to save their star players for Sunday's match against Nottingham.
The team lines issued for Saturday's match programme would suggest that they plan to do just that, as of the 11 names listed, none have iced in the Elite League this season.
But one thing is for sure, the importance Edinburgh place on winning the SPHL will be answered by the players they put on the bench at Fife Ice Arena on Saturday.
Regardless of the roster the Capitals bring, Flyers coach Todd Dutiaume will prepare his men for the same opposition that humbled Dundee.
