HOWE of Fife produced another performance to be proud of against Hillhead/Jordanhill last Saturday.

The defeat of the Premier Two side on their own pitch in Glasgow is another significant milestone in the development of this young Cupar side, as the players focused on winning the match and not where it was being played.

The control and movemen
t in the first half was superb. Playing with the wind, they dominated the opposition and the territory, running in two tries to give themselves a 15-3 lead at the break.

As expected, the Glasgow side threw everything at Howe in the second half but the Cupar defence held firm, restricting the 'Hills' to one converted try to record a memorable 15-10 win and a place in the quarter-final of the Shield competition.

In the draw made on Tuesday, Howe will be at home to Ardrossan on April 5.

ScottishRugbyTV filmed Saturday's game, and the footage should be on their website.

The travelling Howe support once again made themselves heard, even although they were slightly depleted due to an alternative fixture in Italy.

This support really motivates the team and more will be required on Saturday when the Howe travel to face Forresters in the league.

The Edinburgh team are still in the race for promotion and are pushing second placed Dumfries hard to the finishing line.

Officially, the Howe require one more point to ensure the championship, so this will add some spice to the fixture.

Forresters will be keen to avenge a comprehensive 44-12 defeat at Duffus in November but Howe are going well and still adhering to their 'one game at a time' policy.

The fact that there is great competition for places helps to keep the players focused and as they approach another big game for the club, selection continues to be a good problem to have for the coaches.
